The Jack Russell Terrier, also known as the Parson Russell Terrier originated in England in the early 1800 hundreds. The Jack Russell was bred to hunt rodents. They are very energetic, friendly and fearless dogs. They have a drive to please their owner and are highly intelligent. The Jack Russell comes in a variety of coat colors and types of coats which include smooth, broken and rough coats. The "shorty Jack" also known as a "puddin", ranges in height from 8 inches to 10 inches.  They have relatively a small chest, short legs, and athletic body to enable them to move freely in under ground dens and burrows.

Q: What is the difference between a Shorty Jack Russell and a Parson Russell?

A: The Parson Russell has longer legs and are more suited in a conformation ring.  The Shorty Jack Russell is best known for their Barn Hunt skills and they excel in the earth dog trials.

 

Q: What is the first thing you should train your jack russell puppy?

A: Potty training is very important the minute you bring your puppy home.  Rollin river Jacks start at a very young age by placing shaving/pellets in the corner of their puppy room.  The next stage is running to the sleigh bells at the door to go outside.

Q:What is the shorty Jack Russell?  

A: Because of their short legs they are referred to as a shorty jack. Irish jacks are also known as puddin jacks.

Q: Does the Jack Russell come in a variety of coats?

A: Yes, the coat may come in smooth, broken or rough.  The smooth coat is dense and coarse.  The rough coat is dense and harsh.  The broken is between the two with facial tuffs.

Q: Are jack russels good family dogs?

A:  Yes, they are big cuddlers and enjoy being loved on by their humans.

A:  Yes, they are.  They are highly intelligent and have a drive to please their owners.  They do however, they have a strong prey drive so socialization is of GREAT importance.

Q:Are jack russells good with other animals?

A: We can answer this from our experience of owning three generations.  All of our jacks are exposed to many small and large livestock , including poultry. This includes cats and other dogs.  Our dogs have great temperamnt and are HIGHLY socialized.

Q:  Does a jack russell need alot of exercise?

A:  Jacks are very energetic dogs.  They love walks, runs, and definitely love to play.  They require a leader and that leader should be you.
